Leesylvania State Park is accepting applications for a Maintenance/Housekeeping Ranger position.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a responsible, goal-oriented individual who can work as part of a team, take direction from others, and is capable of working unsupervised. This position focuses on the daily upkeep of park facilities and positive interaction with a diverse public.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Primary focus includes proper and prompt cleaning of restrooms and facilities, and trash removal
- Performs the light maintenance and cleaning tasks necessary to operate state park facilities
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Ability to stand, bend, and work outdoors exposed to the elements.
- Must be able to work well with other staff and park guests.
- Must be willing to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Additional Considerations:
- Knowledge of cleaning methods and the use of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and safety practices related to the work site.
- Demonstrate the ability to work on your own.
- Knowledge of the operation of manual and power cleaning equipment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are needed.
- Must be able to follow oral instructions.
- Able to perform a variety of cleaning tasks and to tolerate contact with a variety of cleaning products and solutions.
- Ability to lift heavy objects and stand for long periods of time to perform manual labor safely.
- Ability to handle issues arising in the use of the facility by visitors.
Special Instructions:
- Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
- Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
- Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

- DCR classified, retired, and wage staff (after six months of service) are entitled to overnight facility discounts, such as:
- Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
- Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night before a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
- Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins, and yurts are included; one-night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
