DCR is looking for talented people to fill positions listed below. Unless stated otherwise, you must complete and submit an electronic state application by the job announcement's close date.

Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is hiring! Join us in preserving what people care about most – access to the outdoors, natural habitats, open spaces, clean water, and safe infrastructure.

Our Virginia State Park's Business and Revenue Division is accepting applications for a Field Staff Administrative Specialist position.

In this position, you will:

  • Be responsible for maintenance and enhancements of the program area SharePoint site, including automation, site content, access, and internal partner coordination.
  • Coordinate and schedule monthly division orientations for new, promoted, or transferring employees, delivering sessions that communicate leadership’s strategic vision and essential administrative guidance.
  • Support the Field Staff Administrative Coordinator in the development and phased implementation of onboarding & offboarding automations through the program area SharePoint site.
  • Partner with the Field Staff Administrative Coordinator to provide indirect supervision to employees performing administrative procedures that require correction or support.
  • Collaborate with the Field Staff Administrative Coordinator in the development of hiring requests and maintain accurate position data within the division’s recruitment tracking system.
  • Assist the Field Staff Administrative Coordinator with the creation and development of document and video training resources.
  • Conduct monthly audits of Cardinal HCM access privileges and initiate access form requests as needed.
  • Conduct monthly division audits of wage employee hours, leave entry, timesheet accuracy, and report findings to supervisor.
  • Act as a division timekeeping support specialist by guiding employees through Cardinal time entry, corrections, leave processes, and HCM reporting.
  • Partner with the Field Staff Administrative Coordinator to create reporting and data that inform program planning, workforce development, and performance monitoring.

The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is the state’s lead conservation agency, and it takes a diverse agency to conserve resources for a diverse commonwealth.

This is a wage position, which is not eligible for Commonwealth of Virginia benefits (health care, paid leave, etc.) and is limited to working 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30. DCR provides the opportunity for wage employees to participate in tax-deferred compensation programs, supplemental disability insurance, and supplemental retirement accounts made available through the Commonwealth’s provider network at the employee’s expense.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge and proficiency in using Microsoft 365 software.
  • Experience demonstrating excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with database administration.
  • Experience demonstrating presentation abilities both virtually and in-person.
  • Familiarity with outdoor recreation operations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience managing SharePoint or related website management experience.

Additional Considerations

  • Demonstrated experience using Power Platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience using Adobe Premiere.
  • Familiarity with Virginia State Park administration and operations.

  • Free parking or admission to all Virginia State Parks.
  • DCR classified, retired, and wage staff (after six months of service) are entitled to overnight facility discounts, such as:
    • Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
    • Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night before a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
    • Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins, and yurts are included; one-night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
