Turtleheads Abloom!

Join us for a hike on a Preserve normally only accessible by special arrangement. Along the way, you'll see one of the best examples and largest patch of state-imperiled flowering turtleheads in Virginia. You'll be led by and will hear from a Natural Heritage Ecologist and Land Steward, who will discuss beneficial management of the Preserve and its protection history.Please drive down the preserve road and park in the powerline right-of-way.

Date: September 19, 2026. 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., 2 hours, no raindate
Location: Cherry Orchard Bog Natural Area Preserve, 5344 State Rte 627 Disputanta, Virginia
Maximum capacity: 15
Age: All ages welcome with adequate adult supervision
Pets: No
Clothing: Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear sturdy and comfortable shoes. Due to the potential for biting flies, we recommend wearing long sleeves and, if desired, a bug net.
Supplies: Bring water, snacks, sunscreen, and bug spray.
Amenities: None

Participants should be able to:
  • Understand and follow directions to avoid/manage risks.
  • Tolerate the elements including temperature for the duration.
  • Traverse unpaved and uneven trails.
