As Virginia State Parks celebrates 90 years, there is no better time to step outdoors and explore our parks. However, we also invite you to take a step inside for a look at history that has helped shape the Commonwealth.

With Buggs Island Lake access, 22 miles of trails, disc golf, archery ranges, cabins and campgrounds, Occoneechee State Park offers adventure for all. Hidden within its 2,698 acres is the quieter Occoneechee Conservation Area.

Sweet Run State Park, founded in 2023, offers 884 acres and 11 miles of trails through diverse habitats. Remote Gordon Pond provides quiet beauty, rich wildlife and rewarding birdwatching, making the park a peaceful refuge for nature lovers.

Located on the Eastern Shore, Kiptopeke State Park provides the perfect mix of relaxation and adventure all year long. You'll find a unique mix of trails winding through diverse habitats and amazing bay views that will make you smile.

Virginia State Parks offer scenic bike trails for all ages, with over 55 miles of bike-only routes and many multi-use paths. Campgrounds and cabin areas are also popular for rides but stay alert; these busy spots require extra awareness.

This spring, Occoneechee State Park hosted a tree-planting event with rangers, volunteers and Virginia Department of Forestry partners. Thanks to DOF, the park received a collection of young white oak seedlings, but these were no ordinary trees.

Whether you're exploring the historical Martin's Station, hiking through beautiful trails, picnicking with family or friends or camping under the stars, Wilderness Road State Park promises a memorable experience.

Staunton River State Park is a great place to escape to the great outdoors with family and friends. The park is open year-round, and you can make overnight reservations for camping and cabins up to 11 months in advance.
