National Public Lands Day 2026

Join Sailor's Creek State Park for National Public Lands Day, the nation's largest single-day volunteer event for public lands! Help us give back to the park through hands-on stewardship activities such as litter cleanup, trail maintenance, and other improvement projects. Volunteers of all skill levels are welcome.  

Participants must register using the QR code on the attached promotional flier. Or call the Battlefield at 804-561-7510 to provide contact information to register.

The park will provide safety vests, gloves, and trash collection materials. Volunteers are advised to bring drinking water (we have a water bottle filling station on site), snacks, comfortable closed toe shoes, layered clothing, bug spray and sunscreen.

This is a weather dependent activity and will be cancelled if adverse weather conditions materialize.

About National Public Lands Day

Virginia State Parks celebrates National Public Lands Day each September by inviting volunteers and visitors to take part in the largest single-day volunteer effort for public lands in the country. Join in preserving and enhancing the natural beauty of the state’s public lands through a variety of hands-on activities, including trail maintenance, tree plantings, invasive species removal, litter clean-ups and educational programs on the importance of conservation. Parking fees are waived at most Virginia State Parks for National Public Lands Day (excludes Grayson Highlands and the admission fee at Natural Bridge and Southwest Virginia Museum).
