Join a Park Ranger on National Trails Day for a guided hike along one of America's most iconic trails, The Appalachian Trail! Our journey will begin in the park at Massie Gap and take us through the rock outcrops of the highlands, witnessing unique ecosystems and offering amazing 360° views as we venture onto the National Forest land. This hike is considered difficult and will be just under 5 miles in length. Adventurous children age 8 years and up are welcome to participate but must be accompanied by a guardian, as there will be some climbing involved. Wear appropriate footwear, bring snacks and water.

About National Trails Day
On the first Saturday of June, Virginia State Parks celebrates National Trails Day®, an annual event sponsored by the American Hiking Society encouraging outdoor enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels to explore hiking, biking and equestrian trails. Virginia’s 44 state parks offer guided hikes, trail maintenance workshops and volunteer opportunities to highlight trail stewardship and the importance of preserving trails for future generations.
