Fall Fun Fest

Sweater weather is better together. Bring your family and friends to our joyous festival of games, hay rides, face painting, pumpkin carving, crafts, cider, and more. There is no better way to foster community than with a hot drink under the autumn leaves.

1-5 p.m. - Harvest Activities and Games While out and about enjoying the fall leaf color, stop by and join the rangers in fun fall activities. Learn why leaves are colorful in the fall, get your face painted, carve a pumpkin, play some games and just enjoy the day in the park during one of the best times of year in the mountains of southwest Virginia. 

1-5 p.m. - Harvest Hay Rides Enjoy the cool autumn air and view the beauty of the park with a short hayride around the park and up to our very own “pumpkin patch.” Choose a pumpkin of your choice and then take it back to carve with a ranger. Donations for pumpkins would be appreciated for the Friends of Hungry Mother.

6 p.m. - Wild Wonders in Your Backyard Many people love animals, but some animals found in Virginia can be scary. Do you know what animals are in your backyard and why these animals are so important? Don’t be afraid. Join our local wildlife rehabilitator, Darin Handy as we discover why these native animals are so wonderful. (If it’s too cold for the animals, this program will be moved to an inside location to be announced the day of the event.)

7:30 p.m. - Firelight Tales Wrap up the evening with stories around the campfire. Virginia Master Naturalist and Hungry Mother volunteer Melanie Smith, will enthrall you with her tales around the warmth of the season’s last campfire. Remember to dress for cold weather, bring a blanket or chair to sit or lounge on.
