Explore historic Prince Edward Lake on this guided canoe tour led by rangers. Created in the Great Depression era by the young black men of Civilian Conservation Corps Company 1390, Prince Edward Lake became home to Prince Edward State Park – the first Virginia State Park accessible to people of color – in 1950. Discover more about the role this special and unique place played in the broader national civil rights movement while enjoying the tranquility of Prince Edward’s calm lake waters.
This program is for beginners and experienced paddlers alike; prior canoeing experience is not required. This activity is NOT suitable for children under 5 years old. Those aged 5-15 MUST be accompanied by an adult. The cost is $5 per participant.
Advanced registration is required, and fees must be paid at time of reservation. Register by 5 p.m. the day prior at the Discovery Center or over the phone with a credit card by calling 434-408-1587. Space is limited, so spots are available on a first come, first served basis.
