National Get Outdoors Day is the perfect invitation to step outside, breathe deeply, and reconnect with the natural world. It’s a celebration of fresh air, movement, and the simple joy of making memories outdoors with the people who matter most. To mark this special day, we invite you to join us for our Birding in the Gap series—an opportunity to slow down, explore, and discover the vibrant birdlife that calls Big Stone Gap home.
Whether you’re an experienced nature lover or someone who hasn’t spent much time outside lately, National Get Outdoors Day offers the ideal moment to begin. Meet our friendly park rangers and dedicated volunteers at the museum’s front gate before setting off on a relaxed, scenic walk along the Powell River Greenbelt. This easy, accessible route welcomes participants of all ages and abilities, making it a wonderful way to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors while learning to identify the birds that flutter, sing, and soar through our region.
This program will take place rain or shine, so please dress comfortably for the weather and wear sturdy walking shoes. No registration is required—simply show up ready to explore.
