When

June 17, 2026. 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Discover what the tiny creatures living beneath the water’s surface can tell us about the health of a stream. Join us for a short hike to a nearby creek, where we’ll use a seine net to collect and observe aquatic macroinvertebrates. These creatures are small but important indicators of water quality. Together, we’ll explore how the presence (or absence) of these organisms helps us understand pollutant levels and overall stream health.

Expect to get your feet wet, so please wear appropriate footwear. All activities are conducted in accordance with Virginia law; park staff hold the required permits and training to collect and briefly handle certain wildlife.

Please meet at Green Hill Pond. All materials provided. Suitable for all ages. Wear appropriate clothing and shoes for the weather and bring a water bottle with you. Parks are for everyone, please let us know if you need special accommodation.
