Explore the ancient history of New River Trail through the Geology of Hoover Mountain! During Naturalist Week you can join expert naturalists each day for a new theme packed with discovery and adventure; perfect for all ages. Come learn, explore, and connect with nature in new and exciting ways. Hands-on activities, expert talks, and outdoor adventures await!
Here are the daily themes and experts:
Monday: Caving & Cave Ecosystems with Scientist, Penelope Vorster
Tuesday: Freshwater Mussels & Snorkeling with Aquatic Biologist, Tiffany Leach
Wednesday: Geology & Rock Formations with Program Director and State Geologist, Matthew Heller
Thursday: Moth Night with Rangers
Friday: River Detectives with Naturalist, Brooks Lindamood
Geology & and Mining History with Program Director and State Geologist, Matthew Heller
(10 am- 12 pm)
Embark on an engaging hike around the Hoover Mountain Biking Area, where every step uncovers the fascinating story of the rich geology that shaped this unique landscape, the origins of the New River, and the historic mining that has affected the natural landscape.
Prepare to walk on uneven terrain for 1.2 miles.
