Fire is for Girls!

Sept. 12, 2026. 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.

Calling all Girl Scouts, girls, and women of all ages! In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn all about the importance of fire on the landscape from women experienced in wildland fire, try your hand at building a fire line, and practice safely lighting a fire using natural materials. Of course, all campfires must be tested by roasting marshmallows and making s'mores, so bring your appetite.

What to Expect:
The workshop will be conducted in an open area with benches for seating. Optional activities include bending down or kneeling while attempting to use a farro rod, using hand tools to dig a fire line, gathering kindling from the ground, and roasting marshmallows.

Every September, during Girl Scouts Love State Parks weekend, Virginia State Parks offers a variety of programs to connect Girl Scouts with nature while earning badges. From guided hikes and plant identification to campfire building and backpacking basics, this special weekend helps Girl Scouts learn outdoor skills, build confidence and become advocates for the environment.
