Hiking Through History - Tobacco Barn

Discover the long, rich history of Virginia’s tobacco production on a short hike to one of Smith Mountain Lake State Park’s tobacco barns. You will learn about the deep history of tobacco and how it influenced Virginia’s landscape, economy, and culture. The hike will be on Tobacco Run trail; an easy, 0.5-mile, shaded trail.

Please wear shoes suitable for hiking, and dress for the weather. We recommend that you bring a water bottle, a hat, and insect repellant. (Optional: a hiking stick, sunscreen, camera.) Pets are welcome but must be kept on a leash & under control at all times.

From guided hikes and plant identification to campfire building and backpacking basics, this special weekend helps Girl Scouts learn outdoor skills, build confidence and become advocates for the environment.
