Travel back in time over 160 years ago. Who lived in this area before the dam and Smith Mountain Lake were here? Join a ranger on a moderate hike to the ruins of the Five Oaks plantation house and learn about the Saunders family and how their past affected the land where Smith Mountain Lake State Park was built.

Please wear comfortable sturdy shoes that are suitable for walking on uneven trails, and dress for the weather. We recommend that you bring a water bottle, a hat, and insect repellant. (Optional: a hiking stick, sunscreen, camera.) Pets are welcome but must be kept on a leash & under control at all times.
