Birding in the Riverine Forest

Where
Program Location: Launch A Parking Lot
Main Park Address: Powhatan State Park, 4616 Powhatan State Park Rd., Powhatan, VA 23139.
When
Aug. 2, 2026. 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
Walk through a shady riverine forest with your park ranger guide to look and listen for woodland birds and water-loving species. Colorful summer migrants have flown thousands of miles from Central or South America to raise their young here. Winter migrants have already flown back up north for the summer, while others are year-round residents. Let's see who is out and about!
What to Expect:
The walk will be up to 1.5 miles at a relaxed pace on mostly flat terrain with frequent stopping. Wear comfortable walking shoes, sun protection, and bring water. Bring binoculars if you have them. If not, we do have a few pairs of binoculars that can be borrowed.
While registration is not required for this program, it is recommended. If you register, we will be able to contact you if the program is cancelled due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
