The Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park will continue its “Lunch on the Lawn” summer music series on Friday, August 21, from 12 to 1 p.m., featuring Richard Phillips.

Richard Phillips is an accomplished acoustic musician and singer-songwriter whose career spans decades and includes the release of ten studio albums. Known for his skillful guitar work, Richard has taught advanced guitar courses at Mountain Empire Community College (MECC). He also shares his expertise at MECC’s Mountain Music School, where he teaches intermediate guitar alongside fellow musician Roger Bullock.

Richard’s music weaves together elements of original compositions, blues, folk, country, and traditional styles. This diverse blend creates what he calls “Imaginary Music,” a sound that is both familiar and uniquely his own. Over the years, he has performed at numerous venues in his home region and across the country, appearing on stage throughout Virginia, North Carolina, Texas, Indiana, and Tennessee.

During each “Lunch on the Lawn” event, park staff and volunteers will provide crafts and activities for children. Families are invited to enjoy a relaxing afternoon with homegrown music and live entertainment on the museum lawn.

The program is free and open to everyone. No registration is required.  Participants must bring their own lunch.
