Where

Program Location: Visitor Center
Main Park Address: Staunton River State Park, 1170 Staunton Trail, Scottsburg, VA 24589.

When

Aug. 1, 2026. 9:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

Hoo's making that noise? Join us at the Visitor Center for an unforgettable nighttime hike to experience the nocturnal world of owls in Staunton River State Park. While we hike, we'll call for owls, discuss their important role in the park's ecosystem, and listen for other wildlife along the trail.

Since Staunton River is an international dark sky park, we'll also get a beautiful view of the night sky and be able to see constellations and stars you may not normally be able to see!

While this is a free event, you must sign-up in advance in-person at the Visitor Center. The program is limited to 15 sign-ups. We will be navigating the park at night, so prepare to wear closed-toe shoes and hike up to 1.5 miles. Red flashlights will be provided, but feel free to bring your own as well.
