Bloom Builders Workday

Where
Program Location: Park Office
Main Park Address: Douthat State Park, 14239 Douthat State Park Rd., Millboro, VA 24460.
When
Aug. 8, 2026. 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Join us for a hands-on volunteer workday as we launch the new Pollinator Garden at Douthat State Park! Together, we’ll prepare the future habitat by removing old landscaping plastic, pulling up and resetting pavers, spreading fresh topsoil, and getting the space ready for planting. This is a great opportunity to support native pollinators, learn a bit about habitat restoration, and spend a rewarding day outdoors in one of Virginia’s most scenic state parks.
What to Bring:
Gloves, eye protection, closed-toe shoes, water, and your enthusiasm for blooms and pollinators.
Who Can Join:
Volunteers of all ages and skill levels—no experience needed.
Why It Matters:
Pollinators play a vital role in healthy ecosystems. By helping build this garden, you’re creating a welcoming space for butterflies, bees, and other beneficial species who call Douthat home.
Parks are for everyone. If you have accessibility questions or concerns, please email Hannah.Johnson@dcr.virginia.gov or call 540-862-8114.
