Oct. 31, 2026. 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Grab the leash, summon your courage, and join us for a spooktacular fall B.A.R.K. Ranger Hike!

As we wander past the park’s historic structures, we’ll uncover what happens when humans move out…and nature creeps back in. Old homes, crumbling stone walls, weathered barns, and abandoned farm fields may seem quiet—but after humans leave, they’re anything but empty.

Along the trail, keep your eyes and ears open for clues left behind by the creatures that have claimed these forgotten places as their own. Bats flutter overhead, owls watch silently from the trees, spiders weave their webs in dark corners, snakes slip beneath old stones, and mice disappear into places you might not dare to reach.

We’ll practice the B.A.R.K. Ranger principles as we explore how wildlife finds food, shelter, and hiding places among the remnants of the people who once lived and worked here. Who knows what—or who—we might encounter along the way?

Come dressed for the occasion!

Costumes for dogs and their humans are optional—but highly encouraged! Please choose costumes that are comfortable and safe, and that do not restrict your dog’s movement, breathing, hearing, or vision. All dogs must remain leashed and under control throughout the hike.

Before We Brave the Trail we will meet at the Interpretive Center for a brief orientation and pet first-aid presentation by Hoof & Paw Veterinary Services. Then we’ll head into the woods for a hike over moderately steep and rocky terrain. Please note that a current rabies vaccination is required.

So grab your leash, lace up your boots, and bring your bravest four-legged companion for a morning of history, wildlife, and just a little Halloween mystery.

The old homesteads may be abandoned…but that doesn’t mean they’re empty.
