Looking to get hooked on a new hobby?

Join a ranger and learn the basics of catching a fish, from setting up your rod to setting your hook. Learn about different lures and bait, common fish in the area, and practice casting your line out in the water. 

This program is a part of the Department of Wildlife Resources Fall Free Fishing Weekend: September 25th - 27th, 2026. For these programs specifically, a fishing license is not required to participate. 

Outside of this special weekend, fishing participants 16 and older must have a valid Virginia state freshwater fishing license. Fishing licenses can be purchased online on the Virginia DWR website.

This program will meet at the Visitor Center.
