Nov. 18, 2026. 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

How did families and forest animals prepare when colder days were on the way? Join Park Interpreters for a hands-on adventure exploring the skills, resources, and seasonal changes that helped both people and wildlife get ready for winter. Young naturalists will discover how animals gather food, find shelter, and conserve energy, while also trying their hand at traditional homesteading skills. Activities including candle making and, weather permitting, campfire cooking as we make s’mores together. We’ll also head outside for a short walk to look for signs of how the forest is preparing for the colder months ahead. All ages are welcome, but activities are designed especially for young naturalists ages 3–8. Parents or guardians must remain with their children throughout the program.

Wear comfortable walking shoes, dress for the weather, and meet at the Interpretive Center. Campfire activities are weather dependent and may be modified or canceled due to conditions.
