Hoo's making that noise? Start the New Year off with hoot! Join us at the Visitor Center for the first ever morning Owl Prowl at Staunton River State Park. This hike will be a unique experience while we interact with world of owls in the morning twilight. While we hike, we'll call for owls, discuss their important role in the park's ecosystem, and listen for other wildlife along the trail.
Since Staunton River is an international dark sky park, we'll also get a beautiful view of the morning twilight and be able to see constellations and stars you may not normally be able to see!
While this is a free event, you must sign-up in advance in-person at the Trading Post. The program is limited to 20 sign-ups. We will be navigating the park in the dark, so prepare to wear closed-toe shoes. We will be hiking the Captain Staunton Trail down to the River trail and from there taking the River Trail to the Staunton River Boat launch. The hike will be about 1.5 miles. Red flashlights will be provided, but feel free to bring your own as well.
For any questions please reach out to the park at 434-572-4623
