CLARKSVILLE, Va. – Occoneechee State Park is pleased to announce the promotion of Brandon Brown to park manager. He previously served as assistant park manager and succeeds Chris Doss, who transitioned to the Department of Conservation and Recreation’s Office of Public Safety & Law Enforcement.
Brown brings extensive leadership experience and deep commitment to public service into his new role. During his 20-year Air Force career, he completed deployments in Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates. He also traveled to more than 130 countries, providing protection for dignitaries and military assets.
Brown began his journey with Virginia State Parks in November 2022, joining Occoneechee as a Department of War SkillBridge intern while still serving in the Air Force. Following his retirement from military service in April 2023, he transitioned into a full-time role as a maintenance ranger at the park and was promoted to assistant park manager in November 2025.
“This park has felt like home since the day I arrived, and I’m excited to continue serving a place and community that mean so much to my family and me,” said Brown. “I look forward to building strong relationships with our visitors, volunteers and partners as we work together to protect these natural resources and create meaningful experiences for everyone who comes to enjoy the park.”
Virginia State Parks celebrates Brown’s continued leadership and looks forward to the positive impact he will make as park manager at Occoneechee State Park.
